Paris is so well situated that jetting off is always tempting. You know how much I like getting away.
Somehow, though, I had never taken advantage of the easiest escape route ever: the Eurostar!
I’ve now rectified that oversight.
In less than two and a half hours I was whisked from the land of wine and cheese to the one of fish and chips.
Of course, London offers much more than that. Between my taste for offbeat adventures and an unconventional guide, I had quite a random visit. Here are a few highlights:
I stumbled into London Fashion Week!
Browsed in Europe’s largest bookstore! (Foyles)
Tried to get the attention of the King!
Oggled cute British boys in cute out-of-the-way cafes
Went for a ride in the English countryside
Just kidding! That shot’s in Hyde Park where there was also this:
Listened to rockabilly in Camden
(They claimed they lived in China and were trying to get the money to buy tickets back!)
Was tickled by random Britishisms
Struck silly poses wherever I went
The main impetus for the trip was actually to catch up with an old friend and be filmed for a documentary about him. It’s a long story (so long I’ve even considered writing a book!), but suffice it to say, he’s an interesting character.
It was fascinating being a small part of the process and experiencing my nerves. For some background shots, for example, the filmmaker would tell us to walk for a scene and suddenly my legs would go wobbly. Just walk, Sion! Look natural!
I got over my nerves soon enough and was relieved to sound pretty coherent once we got down to business. All the footage from this weekend will get cut down to a cameo of a few seconds, I’m supposing. Writers aren’t the only ones who have to do merciless editing! I can’t wait to see the finished product.
All these recent trips have been exciting, but I’m looking forward to finding some sort of rhythm in Paris again. Must. Settle. Down.
I feel things a-brewing. I know these experiences are being added to the mix; I hope they find their way into some writing. So…nose, meet grindstone. Alchemy, get to work!
London is one of the loveliest cities in the world. In case you go back for a second visit: http://rococoreport.com/2012/05/22/from-london-with-love/

Indeed. It wasn’t my first visit to London which is why I could get away with such an unconventional trip this time. But there’s SO much to discover in the city – definitely worth repeat visits. I’ll bookmark your post for when I go back! 🙂

YES. Turn that long story into a book. Do it.
(And I laughed harder than was probably proper at those bathroom signs…)

I am SO glad you laughed at that photo. I was looking at it wondering if I should put it up. I thought it was hysterical, but I didn’t know if I was just being weird. THANK YOU for joining my club 🙂
Also, yes, book. Well, I’m glad someone is doing a film about him in any case. I’m toying with another idea, but the Bruno book is somewhere on the burner, too. So many stories to tell in life, eh?

Thanks, Emma! I can’t wait to see the finished documentary, either! I’m sure I’ll be talking about it more on here when it’s done.

YAY!! It’s happening! I am so glad to read and see that pic of Bruno! After hearing about him, it is really nice to see him there, and I am SO GLAD you got to go do this, Sion. That makes me smile very large, and I hope that the film is eventually shown in Denver. 🙂
Looks like a super-fun time, and that IS a very cute Brit boy up there, I agree!

Oh funny — I changed my name (the one that shows up in posts), and now it says “awaiting moderation,” ha. I wish WP would figure out it is still me based on email or something!

Yep, it is *that* old friend. Bruno has been so supportive of me and my writing for years. Really great to be a part of a project about him. I’m so excited to see the finished film, too! I’ll keep you updated!

So pleased you enjoyed your trip to London. It always has a special place in my heart. I lived there in the late ’60’s when it was really buzzing. Carnaby Street, the King’s Road etc …. À la recherche du temps perdu!
