(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Street Scene

Paris feels so relaxed. I still claim August as my favorite month.

Everyone (who’s still in the city) is out and about, finally enjoying the rare run of sun…including this guy:

I can’t tell you his story, only that he was good-natured in letting me take his photo.

In the brief moment of exchange I couldn’t tell whether he was homeless or just a character. Two little kids took him to be a character with that long gray beard and interesting attire and started talking to him. He jovially played the part for them.

In any case, it was almost too much to take in before he rode off again. (Is that an IV drip bag?)

And the sign in back reading poesie (poetry)? Definitely intriguing.

This guy’s been around for quite a while – I took this photo http://bit.ly/rryD4h back in 2007, but that wasn’t the first time I’d seen him.

Much as I’d be interested in his story, he’s one of those characters I’d rather just leave be for the time being so as not to spoil the mystery.

Having said that, I was once contacted by e-mail by this guy http://bit.ly/rgnfJ0 who had seen his photo – goodness knows how without a head – to say it was him and would I like to meet up! Strange things indeed happen down in the streets of this city!

Sab, that’s amazing! I kind of agree: I don’t want to spoil the mystery. Your photo makes me think that I *have* seen him before, though! Now I remember crossing over the Seine once and seeing someone with that “poesie” sign and all his accoutrements. I didn’t put that together until I saw your photo with the river in background. (And his beard’s gone from black to completely gray in 4 years).

Interesting about the headless guy, too (!?) Strange things do indeed happen in these streets – and I *love* it!

You know Sion, I think he has a thing about the river, because I can only once remember seeing him not on one of the bridges, and he definitely wasn’t in ‘playing’ mode – more like putting his feet up and having a break mode. I still didn’t have it in me to snap him or ask him anything though! Thank the powers that be for sneaky zoom lenses, that’s what I say!

Indeed! Well, he was biking from the 20th. Maybe he was on his way to the river! I *did* ask him directly if I could take a photo and he said as long as the light was red, sure, but he’d zip off as soon as it turned green. 🙂

Maybe he lets you lie down on his little cot, hooks you up with some “drip”
and recites poetry to you as you rest…

Maybe he is the French response to the Chinese rickshaws invading Paris?

paris (im)perfect?

Sion Dayson is paris (im)perfect. Writer, dreamer, I moved to France on – no exaggerating – a romantic whim. As you can imagine, a lot can go wrong (and very right!) with such a (non)plan. These are the (im)perfect stories that result.
